The sun is out, and temperatures are rising… which means, it’s summer! With summer comes all the outdoor activities like picnics, hiking that new trail, and lazy pool days that you’ve been waiting all winter to finally do. With all the fun that summer brings, it can also be extremely dangerous if you’re not careful. When the summer heat rises, so do your chances of dehydration. Our bodies are 60% water, so hydration is vital for our health and well-being. Water does more than just quench your thirst. It also can benefit your health by regulating blood pressure and body temperature, lubricates joints, gets waste moving out of your body, and helps with digestion .
Water consumption must balance water loss, especially in the summer with the excess sweating that happens with hotter temperatures, it’s very easy to become dehydrated if you’re not careful. Dehydration can affect every aspect of your health, but one of the biggest impacts it can have is on your lymphatic system. Our lymphatic system is one of our most vital systems in our body and is often looked over. The lymphatic system is our body’s own waste removal service. A major component of the circulatory system, and twice as large as the arterial system, it comprises a network of tissues and vessels that transport and dispose of lymphatic waste and other fluids. Its most important function is the role it plays in our immune response: lymphocytes (white blood cells) originate from and are transported in the lymphatic system to fight off diseases and infections. An impaired lymphatic system will lead to a weakened immune response, meaning we get ill more often. The lymphatic system is 96% water. Dehydration causes the lymphatic system to slow down and inhibits waste removal from the body – this is vital to the success of your natural body contouring program at Slim Sculpt Studios, as our LED Red Light technology will draw the fat from the cell – hydration will aid the lymphatic system in removing the fat from the body. This consequently leads to similar complications as brought about by sedentary behavior. Drinking at least half your body weight in ounces in water throughout the day will hydrate the body, help to replenish the lymphatic system, keep fluids moving, and prevent stagnation that could lead to infection .
Making sure you stay hydrated can seem a bit daunting, especially if you’re trying to cut back on soft drinks, and other sugary drinks. However, you don’t have to have just plain water to stay healthy. There are a lot of different and even fun ways to make sure you stay hydrated. Such as:
Eating your water: You can also eat your way to hydration. Which means your cravings for watermelon in the summer pays off! Look for foods with high water content like watermelon, cucumber, lettuce, oranges, broccoli, tomatoes, zucchini, and spinach. Only 70-80% of your daily water intake needs to come from water, 20-30% should come from food.
Add some flavor: If you don’t like the taste of plain water, there are a ton of options to add some flavor to make drinking water more fun. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice is a quick and easy way to elevate your water. You can also infuse your water with sliced up fruits like berries, oranges, and melons. You can also add cucumber for a refreshing taste. Our Pure Inventions water enhancers are also a great way to make drinking water more enjoyable. We offer 7 great flavors like blueberry & white tea, coconut water, cranberry & elderberry, peach, pineapple & coconut, pomegranate & acai berry, and raspberry. You can also mix the enhancers for even more flavor. All our water enhancers are sugar and calorie free, so you don’t have to worry about consuming any extra additives.
Give yourself timed goals: Buy yourself a good quality reusable water bottle and some stick-on labels to mark the amount of water you want to drink at certain times. This is also a great way to visually see if you’re hitting your goals or if you need catch up .
Wherever the summer takes you, be sure to have fresh water close by. For any drink that you consume that isn’t water, be sure to follow it up with a glass of water to replenish your intake. The heat can be brutal (especially here in Las Vegas!), but with the right tools and knowledge, you can have a safe and happy summer!
